County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy said he measured 3 inches of snow in the village of Convoy overnight, but said the city of Van Wert received 5 inches of snow during the same period. The light snow was accompanied by 20-30-mph winds that caused some drifting in rural areas of the county, but snowplows were out this morning to clear roads in time for school buses.

Unlike earlier in the school year, when classes would likely have been canceled for the day, the county’s school districts all had two-hour delays, but then decided that classes would be in session today. The county was under a Winter Snow Advisory until midnight on Sunday, with lows around 11 degrees, and wind-chills of approximately zero.

Although Sunday’s storm caused some problems for the county, it looks like it will be a major headache for the Northeast, where forecasters are predicting 2-3 feet of the white stuff will fall on that area of the U.S.

Temperatures locally today are expected to be around 23 degrees, with a low of 16 tonight and some light snow. The high on Tuesday is forecast for 30 degrees, with a low of 16 Tuesday evening.

McCoy said another weather system is forecast to move into the area on Wednesday, but noted that it was too early to pinpoint the track of the storm, although he noted the system “has potential and needs to be watched.”

Wednesday should see a high of 30 and a low of 25, while Thursday should see temperatures above freezing – around 37 – with rain and snow possible. A low of 24 is forecast for Thursday evening. Friday should a high of 28 and a low of 14, while more snow is possible on Saturday, with a high of 27.
