L’view students living Rachel’s Challenge

VW independent/submitted information

Two months after the Rachel’s Challenge assembly was presented at area schools, students at Lincolnview Local Schools continue to work hard to live out her message.

Along with other sixth graders, these students are committed to improving their school culture by reminding others to start a chain reaction of kindness and extend friendship to others. Each week, students meet for activities that promote positive, thoughtful behavior. (Lincolnview photo)

Rachel Joy Scott was the first victim of the Columbine school shooting that rocked the nation in 1999. Her family has worked tirelessly to promote Rachel’s message of kindness and compassion through assemblies across the United States and in several foreign countries.

Group facilitator Tonia Verville has been pleased with the students’ initiative.

“Rachel’s Challenge resonated strongly within the student body,” Verville noted. “It has resulted in new and stronger friendships and a sense of purpose that has been a beautiful thing to see.

“We need to give our young people credit,” she added. “They are capable of anything, and they really believe they can change the world!”

Verville is assisted by teachers Lindsay Grilliot and Melissa Stork.
