Concealed carry permit data released

Concealed carry permits issued in Van Wert County in 2014 were down from the year before, according to information released by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office on Thursday.

concealed carry artworkA total of 161 concealed carry permits were issued in 2014 by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, with another 125 permits renewed. Four licenses were suspended, two were revoked and one applicant was denied a permit.

That compares to 373 new concealed carry permits issued in 2013, and 121 renewed that year. Two permits were suspended two years ago, and four permits denied.

According to the attorney general’s office, 58,066 new permits were issued in 2014, and 52,146 permits renewed in the past year. In comparison, 96,972 new permits were issued the year before, with 48,370 permits renewed in 2013.

Among neighboring counties, Allen County had the most new permits issued and renewed in 2014, with 514 new concealed carry permits and 642 renewals. Auglaize County issued 274 new permits and renewed 362, Mercer County had 205 new concealed carry permits and 199 renewals, while Paulding County saw 102 new permits and 36 renewals. Putnam County issued 137 new permits and renewed 95.
