Albert Leo Heitkamp

Albert Leo “Al” Heitkamp, 83, of Rockford, died at 12:55 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born February 24, 1932, the son of the late Roman and Eleanor (Schemmel) Heitkamp, who both preceded him in death. On July 28, 1956, he married Connie Sue (Stetler) Heitkamp, who died January 29, 2003.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Survivors include two children, Mark (Tina) Heitkamp of Rockford and Vickie (Kevin) Fultz of Orland Park, Illinois; two brothers, Robert (Charlene) Heitkamp of Cassella and Jim (Barb) Heitkamp of Piqua; a sister, Janet Stevens of Lompoc, California; one sister-in-law, Rosie Heitkamp of New Bremen; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Two brothers, Paul and Joseph Heitkamp; two sisters, Mildred Heitkamp and Rogene Brown; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Stevens and Russel Brown, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Rockford, with Father Kenneth Alt officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, where a Rosary prayer service will be held at 7:45 that evening.

Preferred memorials: Rockford Recreation Legacy Fund or St. Teresa Catholic Church.
