Group works to ratify bylaws

 By Rex Dolby

The Van Wert Area Photography Club met Thursday, March 12, to amend and ratify its new bylaws.  Committee members hoped there would be a few minor changes and then the document would be ratified with amendments. If three heads are better than one, then 13 heads should have been able do the job rather quickly.

Vice President Stuart Jewett projected each page, made the modifications agreed upon, and brought up the next page.  The first few pages seemed to be improved quickly with just minor grammar/punctuation changes, and committee members became optimistic about meeting their goal. As the process continued however, it was apparent that there were divergent opinions about the makeup of the membership and the future activity the club might undertake.  As a result, the discussion, although related to the language in the By-Laws, became mired in the opposing views of those present.

Jewett determined that the committee would have to rewrite those sections based on the suggestions sent to them by members during the following week.  He then eventually got all the remaining pages covered, again, with just some minor changes.  He said that hopefully the bylaws would be approved at next month’s meeting on April 9, providing the membership contacts the committee within a week with their ideas.
