BLUE CREEK TOWNSHIP — The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a serious injury accident that occurred Thursday afternoon on U.S. 127 in Paulding County’s Blue Creek Township.
One of the two drivers involved, Linda R. Ross, 51, of Paulding, was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to Parkway Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by life-flight helicopter. The other driver, Vera Joyce Decamp, 92, of Grover Hill, sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries and was also flown by life-flight helicopter to Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.
Joseph Andrew Decamp, 97, also of Grover Hill, a passenger in the Decamp vehicle, was taken to Paulding County Hospital by Grover Hill EMS squad for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigating troopers said Ross was driving a 2003 Pontiac Montana minivan north on U.S. 127 when her vehicle went left-of-center and struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan driven by Mrs. Decamp. Decamp’s vehicle veered off the west side of the roadway, where it came to rest, while Ross’ van traveled off the east side of the highway and came to rest there.
Both vehicle sustained heavy, disabling damage and were towed from the scene by Gideon’s Towing and Recovery.
The crash remains under investigation. Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The Van Wert Post was also assisted at the scene by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and Scott Fire and EMS.
