William J “Lump” Hoverman, 65, of Van Wert, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his residence.

He was born October 12, 1949, in Paulding, the son of Vernon and Pollyanna (Dickinson) Hoverman, who both preceded him in death.

Mr. Hoverman worked in Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, and New Jersey before returning to Van Wert to work and take care of his mother. He was an independent representative for Books Are Fun and sold materials to area schools at the time of his death.

He graduated from Van Wert High School and Ohio University. He loved to play golf, trivia games, loved sports — especially anything involving Ohio State University — was an avid card player and loved to read. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1197 and Willow Bend Country Club, both in Van Wert.

Survivors include two brothers, Kim (Bonnie) Hoverman of Van Wert and Jay (Andrea) Hoverman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a sister, Toni (Chuck) Bair of Hamilton Lake, Indiana; two nephews, Zach (Kimmie) Hoverman of Nashville, Tennessee, and David (Brooke) Hoverman of Fort Wayne; a niece, Chelsea Hoverman of Fort Wayne; and a step-nephew, Travis (Jodi) Knittle of Van Wert.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Josh Angel officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Brumback Library or Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
