Head Start preschool applications sought

Council on Rural Services information

Getting a child ready for kindergarten is important, but learning starts at birth and continues through preschool. If children wait for kindergarten or primary school they will be missing time when learning develops most quickly in their lives.

Kids Learning Place is now taking applications and filling the limited number of spots available for the Head Start preschool classrooms in Van Wert County for fall 2015. Head Start is a federal funded, high-quality preschool program for children ages 3-5 years old. The program is provided at no cost to the families that meet eligibility with limited income, foster children, children who live with homeless families or children who have a disability or special need.

The Council on Rural Services wants to help children prepare for kindergarten and is committed to ensuring education excellence for the families and children.  Every child needs a variety of learning experiences before starting school; Head Start preschool achieves this by providing a positive education experience that includes:

  • Experienced teachers with degrees in every classroom
  • Half-day preschool in classrooms or through home base visits
  • Safe and friendly environments where children are eager to learn
  • Teaching plans that match school readiness and how children learn and develop

The Council’s centers in Van Wert are recognized in Ohio’s “Step Up to Quality” program with four-star awards for quality from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The application process is taking place in Van Wert County now and spots are filling quickly, so call to secure a child’s spot in the program.  For more information about Head Start and Kids Learning Place call toll-free 866.627.4557 or in Van Wert at 419.238.0822.
