VW Marlins to have parents info meeting

The YMCA Van Wert Marlins swim team can provide kids with plenty of exercise, new friends, a structured activity and friendly competition this summer.

A parents informational meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, May 4, for the parents of youths interested in joining the Van Wert Marlins swim team this summer. The meeting will be held in the Silver Sneakers Room at the YMCA.

During the meeting, parents will get all of the information needed for the season, and also meet Marlins coaches and board members. Parents can also bring their swimmers and their swimming suits along to the meeting to meet Head Coach Trey Stemen and swim from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

Practice will start this season on Monday, May 18, and will run through July 9. Practice times while school is in session will be Tuesdays, from 7 to 7:45 p.m.; Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m.; and Thursdays, 7 to 7:45 p.m.  Once school is out, practices will be 7:30-8:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Swimmers can practice and attend meets as much or as little as they want. Youths ages 8 and under through age 18 are able to participate. Most meets will be on Mondays and Thursdays except championships, which take place Friday and Saturday at the end of the season.
