C’view lauds FFA, looks at street project

CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education met on Monday for its regularly scheduled meeting.

High School Principal Mike Biro reported high marks for the Crestview FFA program. Eight Crestview students placed within the top 10 spots for a recent FFA competition, placing 1-7 and 10th.

“Crestview has outstanding records with the test, but this is by far the best they’ve done,” said Biro.

Convoy Mayor Tim Bolenbaugh and Council President Neal Orsbon also attended the meeting to discuss the possibility of a joint effort with the school district to repave Tully Street, which runs in front of the school complex.

Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf announced that kindergarten registration has gone up three more students since last reported. This means there are currently 61 kindergarten students enrolled for the 2015-2016 school year.

In personnel action taken on Monday, the board approved the following certified (teaching) contracts: Erin Callow, one-year limited; Nicole Fruchey, one-year limited; Jordan Miller, one-year limited; Allison Reindel, one-year limited; Mimi Wreath, one-year limited; Jenna Wurst, one-year limited; Jackie Deitering, three-year limited; Melissa Eickholt, three-year limited; Ben Kaufman, three-year limited; Nicole Kirkpatrick, three-year limited; Ashley Marks, three-year limited; Alicia Perrott, three-year limited; Zach Rosenbeck, three-year limited; Shay Sheets, three-year limited; Tess Watson, three-year limited; and Amber Rickard, continuing.

In addition to the certified contracts, the board also approved the following non-certified contracts: Diane Boroff, one-year limited food service; Meghan Henry, two-year limited paraprofessional; Bonnie Martyne, two-year limited food service; Cristal Nihiser, two-year limited paraprofessional; Karen O’Hagan, two-year limited paraprofessional; Heather Riggenbach, two-year limited secretary; Susan Watts, one-year limited paraprofessional.

A one-year contract was also approved to custodial worker Drew Uncapher as of June 8, 2015.

The board accepted the resignation of intervention specialist Steve Sealscott after three years with the district, effective the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Bus driver Robert Hall also resigned after serving seven years with the district, effective the end of the school year.

The board also accepted, with thanks, a $500 donation for the Brenda Showalter Schumm Girls’ Athletic Scholarship Fund.

In other action, the board also:

  • Approved the week of May 4-8 as Staff Appreciation Week.
  • Approved the renewal of the Northwest Ohio Educational Technology (NWOET) contract

The next scheduled meeting for the Crestview Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the district boardroom.
