NEW BREMEN — The Lincolnview Lancer varsity track teams competed in the Cardinal Invitational in New Bremen on Friday night.
The night was highlighted with all three of last year’s state qualifiers winning their events. Hannah McCleery won the high jump clearing 5 feet even. She went out at 5 feet, 4 inches, which would have been a new meet record. Hunter Blankemeyer won a highly competitive 110-meter hurdle race in 15.06 seconds, defeating last year’s regional champion In that event, while Bayley Tow won the 800-meter run in a near school record time of 1:57.81; the current school record is 1:57.3.
“We have some very competitive and accomplished athletes and they did not disappoint tonight,” said Lincolnview Track Coach Matt Langdon. “All three of our 2014 state kids performed well and used the competition to push themselves to that next level.
“This was a great meet for us in that regard,” Coach Langdon added. “Our top kids needed to be pushed and they needed to be in pressure situations to help them prepare for the upcoming tournament. They handled themselves well and used the competition to push them.”
Other top placers included a third-place finish by Anna Gorman in the 800-meter run in a career best time of 2:27. Also in the 800 was Alex Rodriguez, who ran a very competitive race to place third in a career best time of 2:02. Trevor Neate placed fourth in the high jump, while Blankemeyer was seventh in the high jump and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. Chandler Adams placed seventh in the discus, while McCleery was seventh in the long jump.
The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team (Jewel, Norton, Rager and Blankemeyer) placed third, the boys’ 4×800 relay team (Snyder, Fickert, Thompson, Elick) was seventh and the boys’ 4×400 relay team (Rodriguez, Rager, Cowling, Tow) finished in eighth place.
