YWCA announces kids swim classes

YWCA of VW County information

Are you looking for an activity that will provide fun and exercise for your children?  Does your child want to swim, but has little time through the week to get to a pool?  The YWCA has the answer!

The YWCA of Van Wert County is now accepting registration for its new Kids Aqua Fitness session. The six-week session begins May 16 and runs through June 20. Classes will be held on the following Saturdays: May 16, 23 and 30, June 6, 13, and 20. Classes for children ages 7-9 will be held from 10-11 a.m. and classes for children ages 10-14 will be held from 11 a.m.-noon.

The cost of the Kids Aqua Fitness classes is $50 for one six-week session or sign up for both six-week sessions for only $80.  The classes will include relay games and lots of fun, anything to keep them moving in the water.

The YWCA of Van Wert County is also now accepting registration for two summer swim lesson sessions.  The first four-week session begins June 9 and runs through July 2. The second four-week session begins on July 14 and ends August 6. Classes are offered two times per week on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Call for specific available class times.

The YWCA offers two basic youth swim programs: Preschool Swim Program and Learn-to-Swim Program.

The Preschool Swim Program works with children 3-5 years of age to teach them basic water propulsive skills, create awareness of their aquatic environment and work on gaining their greater aquatic independence.

All preschool level classes have a maximum of six participants to ensure safe, quality one-on-one instruction. The YWCA also offers a Parent-Child class for children 6 months old to 2 years of age and requires an adult participant to work with enrolled children in the pool under an instructor’s supervision and leadership. The classes are 30 minutes long and the fee is $42 for the session.

The Learn-to-Swim Program begins at Level 1, which helps participants feel comfortable in the water. Participants can continue to work up through the levels until they achieve Level 6, which refines strokes and teaches participants to swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over great distances. All upper level classes have a maximum of eight children enrolled to ensure safe, quality one-on-one instruction. These classes are 45 minutes long and the fee is $56 for the session
