The annual fireworks display is only one of the many activities scheduled for this year’s Holiday at Home Fourth of July celebration. This year’s display will be held at the Van Wert City Schools complex on Ohio 118. (VW independent file photo)

Saturday, July 4, will start out at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, corner of Shannon and Jackson streets, which is having its annual pancake and sausage breakfast from 7-11 a.m.  Veterans of the Gulf War can eat free, while the cost for others is $7. The VFW is also holding a gun raffle. Tickets are $10, and those who bring their raffle stubs to the pancake breakfast can get $1 off the cost of their meal.

The 22nd annual Firecracker Century Bike Tour will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Jubilee Park.  Optional routes of 17-, 34- and 62 miles are offered. For more information, contact Lionel Enyart at 419.203.8348.

The Historical Museum, 602 N. Washington St., will have its annual craft fair, with music and food served by the Van Wert Rotary Club from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. All buildings on the grounds will be open for residents to tour throughout the day.

The annual Fourth of July Parade will start at 11 a.m. The parade route runs from the YWCA, corner of Main and Cherry streets, and continue west on Main to the YMCA, corner of Main and Shannon streets, and then turn north onto Shannon Street.  All entries are welcome. Contact Linda Stutz at 419.238.4192 (work) or 419.238.2901 (home).

The Van Wert Firefighters Association will again offer its chicken barbecue at Smiley Park from 4 p.m. until sold out.

Last, but certainly not least, will be the Zambelli fireworks display at approximately 10 p.m. July 4 sponsored by the Van Wert County Foundation and various other businesses. The fireworks have been moved to a new location this year on the Van Wert City Schools campus on Ohio 118.

The Holiday at Home Committee would like to let people know they will need to park on the paved areas and not any of the grassy areas at the school complex.

The track and seating areas will be blocked off, along with the playground at the elementary school, so there will be no access to these areas. However, there will be plenty of grassy areas to view the fireworks display, as well as from people’s vehicles.
