Postal Museum plans New England tour

Museum of Postal History information

DELPHOS — The Museum of Postal History is offering a unique opportunity to spend nine days this fall in New England during peak season for “leaf peepers”.

Participants will be traveling by luxury motorcoach with lodging in 3- and 4-star properties throughout New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. When the museum first offered this trip last fall, 90 people signed up in just 48 hours. The first bus, which will leave September 26 and return October 4, has only six seats remaining. The second trip, which leaves just five days later on October 10 and returns October 18, has room for just eight more couples.

There are two ways to find out all the details of these trips — the easiest is to call tour organizer and leader Gary Levitt at 419.303.5482. Levitt, along with his sidekick George (the Lakefront Lines driver), has done over a dozen trips in the last few years, taking people to New York, Boston, Gettysburg and Washington, D.C., Williamsburg and Nashville, just to name a few. These are fully escorted tours with free time included for those who like to wander.

The second way is to attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Postal Museum, 339 N. Main St. in Delphos. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in more information. However, don’t wait too long to decide, because July 20 is the very last day people can sign up (unless tickets sell out completely before that).

This trip is designed for people to get it all — great restaurants, Hildene Lincoln Home, Rock of Ages Quarry, Ben & Jerry’s Factory, along with the headquarters of LL Bean in Freeport, Maine, have lobster by the shore and take in the beautiful mountain ranges of Vermont and New Hampshire. On top of Cannon Mountain, participants can see five states and Canada or watch the sunrise in the easternmost tip of the U.S. The tour also includes stops in Portland, Boothbay Harbor and Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor. These are just the highlights.

Enjoy a banquet at Jordan’s Pond and at the Dinosaur Barbecue in Troy, New York. Eat the best pies ever made at Kay’s Place in Kingsville and a meal at Funk & Waffles – another triple D destination. Tour members will stay four blocks from the Horseshoe Falls at the 5 Star Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel.

This is a chance of a lifetime … a chance to see and do all those things people have on their “someday” list. Call the museum for a brochure, check it out on Facebook, and look for ads in the local media. People who have made previous tours hail from New York City, Cincinnati, Dayton and a few couples from Illinois, just to experience these great trips from MPH Tours. In fact, part of the cost of the trip may be tax deductible, since the museum is a 501(c)(3) organization
