COLUMBUS — State Representative Tony Burkley (R-Payne) applauded Governor John Kasich’s decision to authorize personnel at Ohio National Guard recruitment centers to carry weapons.

This decision came in response to the tragic shooting that took place at a military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last week that claimed the lives of four Marines, and Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith, a U.S. Navy veteran and native of Paulding.

“Not only do our men and women in uniform deserve our respect, but they should also be given the resources to protect themselves,” Burkley said. “With the recent tragedy in Chattanooga, it is important that Ohio join other states and take the steps necessary to arm our recruiters.”
