VW girls’ tennis team loses to Shawnee

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team lost to Shawnee Monday night by a score of 5-0. Even though there were some close battles, the Lady Cougars failed to win any varsity contests.
No. 1 singles player Ali Moreland of Van Wert lost to Nkiru Anigbogu 6-2, 6-3; No. 2 Cougar singles player Kali Agler lost to Sanjana Rajesekaran 6-4, 6-1; and Emma Verville of Van Wert lost 6-4, 6-1, to Whitney Baxter at the No. 3 singles spot.
The closest match of the day was at No. 1 doubles, where Van Wert’s Phoebe Eutsler and Katie Trittschuh were defeated 6-4, 4-6 and 6-2 by Rishivia Avvari and Meghana Chanamolu of Shawnee. Sierra Blackmore and Jess Agler, the Cougars’ No. 2 doubles team, also stayed close most of the match, losing 6-4, 4-6 and 6-0 to Bree Barker and Abby Stahlkamp of Shawnee.
The loss drops the Cougars to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Western Buckeye League.
Olivia Kline and Allie Kennedy won their junior varsity doubles match by a score of 6-1.
The Lady Cougars will host Bryan tonight at home.
