Knight runners 5th, 6th at Taylor U meet

UPTON, Indiana — The Crestview varsity cross country teams traveled to the Taylor University High School Invitational to open their season on Saturday.

The Knights competed on a course solely dedicated to cross country competition and had numerous runners set personal records on the rolling hills of the Taylor University course.

The girls’ team placed fifth in their race. Placing in the top 10 individuals for the Lady Knights were Ashley Bowen (sixth place in 20:59) and Leslie Skelton (10th place in 21:41). Other scoring finishers were Brooke Ripley (31st), Lauren Schumm (39th), and Sadie Brower (50th).

The boys’ team placed sixth in their race. Adam Saylor finished eighth in 17:40, and was followed by Cody Mefferd (24th), Caleb Bagley (28th), Jordan Perrott (33rd) and Andrew Boley (43rd).

“This was an excellent venue to begin the competitive portion of our season,” said Crestview Coach Jeff Bagley. “We handled our approach to the first meet of the year in way that allowed us to enjoy some strong performances.”
