Lady Cougars upset St. Marys in tennis

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team pulled off a big upset Monday in defeating the St. Marys Roughriders 3-2 in Western Buckeye League action at home.

Both Cougar doubles squads and No. 1 singles player Ali Moreland pulled off the wins.

Moreland defeated Roughrider No. 1 singles player Clare Caywood 6-4, 6-0, while the No. 1 doubles team of Phoebe Eutsler and Katie Trittschuh defeated Jennifer Lauth and Jenna Perry of St. Marys 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Sierra Blackmore and Jess Agler also downed their Roughrider opponents, Rachel Moeller and Jillian Wine, 7-5, 6-2.

Van Wert’s Kali Agler fell to Hannah Felver at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while No. 3 singles player Emma Verville also lost to Roughrider Bailey Rust 6-2, 6-1.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-3 on the year and 2-2 in the WBL.
