Photography exhibit at the fair is a success

When David Prior, a former Van Wert portrait photographer, arrived Monday evening, Sept. 1, to judge the Fair’s Photography Exhibit, he soon commented that he was impressed by the larger number of entries (91) over last year, as well as by the noticeable improvement in the quality of the images.

As he selected the three best entries in each class, Van Wert Area Photography Club members attached the appropriate ribbons and rosettes and recorded each winner’s achievement.

Lindsay McCoy was the top winner in the Senior Division with seven ribbons and two best of show awards, each of which earned $10 from the VWAPC.

Junior Fair Queen Chloee Gamble won the most in the Junior Division.  She was awarded two firsts and three seconds.

VWAPC member Mike Taylor received a first place, Nancy Gribler was awarded a second place and a third place, and Barb Jewett achieved a second place ribbon.

By the time Prior was done, he had awarded 59 ribbons and four best of show awards to 23 of the 54 entrants. He then went on to answer questions both general and specific from the onlookers.

According to Karl Gribler, fair officials thought it was the best show ever and they thanked everyone who participated.

VWAPC members hope that some who participated in the Van Wert County Fair photography exhibit will visit the club’s meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at 114 S. Race St.  Members who participated in the last photo shoot are asked to bring their three best shots on a flash drive for projection and discussion.

Everyone is invited to bring their cameras for a photo shoot after the discussion and business are completed.
