Leo G. Schmelzer
Leo G. Schmelzer, 88, of Delphos, died Monday, September 14, 2015, at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
He was born June 8, 1927, in Delphos, the son of Augustus A. “Gus” and Teresa (Etgen) Schmelzer, who both preceded him in death. On August 29, 1986, he married LaDonna Osting Klaus Schmelzer, who died October 25, 1914.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Patricia (Bob) Kramer of Spencerville; two stepsons, David (Karen Hemker) Klaus of Delphos and Steven (Debbie) Klaus of Lima; two stepdaughters-in-law, Ag Klaus and Linda Klaus, both of Delphos; 13 stepgrandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Kaverman; and eight nieces and nephews.
A stepdaughter, Kathy Lepley; two stepsons, Gary and Ken Klaus; two stepgranddaughters, Lisa Kramer and Kari Klaus Lauck; and a brother-in-law, Charles Kaverman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 17, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
Preferred memorials: St. Rita’s Hospice or St. John’s Foundation.
