BBBS seeking high school volunteers

Big Brothers/Big Sisters information

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer, Auglaize and Van Wert Counties gives the opportunity to more than 60 high school students to volunteer for the After School Buddies Programs. These after-school programs are held at Celina Elementary, St. Marys Intermediate School, Van Wert Elementary, and St. Henry Elementary. BBBS still needs 1-2 volunteers for each of the programs, but specifically needs at least 10 volunteers at Celina Elementary to make the program a success.

The programs meet once a week for about an hour and a half of activities one day a week for the entire school year. As a volunteer mentor, high school students guide and give advice to elementary students on academics, life skills, healthy living, and character building. This role may seem small, but means a great deal to the youngsters taking part. The elementary students look up to the high school students; not only is this a great way to impact the future, but also opens the eyes of high school students to what some of the basic needs in life are in communities so close to home.

The programs meet on the following days from 3:30-5 p.m.: Tuesday (St. Marys Intermediate), Wednesday (Celina Elementary), and Thursday (St. Henry Elementary and Van Wert Elementary).

Those interested in volunteering can call the BBBS office at 419.584.2447 or find an application online at www.bbbsma.com (click “Become a Big”). Fill out an application and mail it to 1005 N. Main St., Celina, OH 45822 or email it to neberle@bbbsma.com.
