David W. Poe, 90, of Van Wert, died Sunday evening, September 27, 2015, at his residence.

He was born May 17, 1925, in Van Wert, the son of J. Clifford and M. Murae (Davies) Poe, who both preceded him in death. He married Ruth A. (Baltzell) Poe, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include a son, William (Lisa A.) Poe of Van Wert; two sisters, Barbara (Donald) Morris of Van Wert and Mary (Jack) Peck of The Villages, Florida; four grandchildren, Jon David (Jessica) Ferris, Heather Sosenheimer, William (Brittany) Poe II and Lisa (Jill) Poe; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Deborah Jean Ainsworth; and one sister, Jean Ellen Thimlar, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Poe was a lifetime farmer in Van Wert County. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County. And a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 178, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert; Middle Point Amvets Post 698; Van Wert Masonic Lodge; Shriners International, where he was a Van Wert County Shriners Club life member; a lifetime member of the Flying Farmers of America; a member of the Van Wert County Township Association; a former Ridge Township trustee; and a former board member of Middle Point Equity, Middle Point Bank and United National Bank.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military honors rendered by combined units of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at the funeral home.
