Cougar volleyball team hosts tournament
Van Wert volleyball information
The past Saturday, the Van Wert volleyball team hosted the annual Van Wert Invitational. Teams participating were Kalida, St. Marys, New Bremen, New Knoxville, Shawnee, Versailles, Elida, and Van Wert. St. Marys defeated New Knoxville in three very close and exciting sets to win the tournament title.
Van Wert lost to St. Marys and Versailles before defeating Elida.
Against St. Marys, Landrie Koontz led the Cougars in serving 9/9 with an ace. Emma Kohn had five kills, with Koontz adding four. Megan Spray was 47-51 setting with 11 assists.
Against Versailles, Peyton Fleming led the Cougars in serving (9/9). Kohn and Koontz each had five kills, with Ella Butler adding four more. Spray was 39/40 setting with 13 assists.
Against Elida, Spray was 11/12 serving with four aces and Domonique Grothause was 7/7 with one ace. Kohn lead the winning attack with 10 kills on 26-27 hitting. Butler and Fleming added four and three kills, respectively. Spray was 51/51 setting with 13 assists, while Butler also added four blocks.
Van Wert moves to 5-12 on the season and will next be in action at Bath on Tuesday.
The Van Wert junior varsity team competed at the Ottawa-Glandorf Junior Varsity Invitational. The Cougar JVs finished the day 2-1, defeating Elida and St. Marys, but falling to O-G.
The JVs’ record now stands at 12-5 on the season.
