Field trip photos viewed, new field trips discussed
By Rex Dolby
The Van Wert Area Photography Club met Thursday, Oct. 8, to view and compare photos that had been taken in the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary on Sept. 20 and the 13th Annual Woodland Indian Celebration on Sept. 26. The former provided amazing views of big cats that seemed as if they were close enough to take a bite out of you had they been so inclined. The Indian celebration featured colorful beadwork, headdresses, and period structures. Those who left Van Wert early that day noted that they’d leave three or more hours later the next time to be there to capture the colorful dancers.
Acting president Stuart Jewett announced that the club was a step closer to receiving its non-profit certification and as a result acting treasurer Karl Gribler is writing a check to be included with the mailing of the initial forms.
Discussion then turned to what could be the destination for the next photo shoot. Points of interest in Wapakoneta and St. Marys were offered, but received little interest. When Randy Shellenbarger mentioned the fact that the Celina Photo Club was considering a trip to John Bryan St. Park just outside Yellow Springs, to shoot fall color, interest really ignited with talk of a combined club trip.
The Ohio Division of Natural Resources Division of State Parks states, “John Bryan is the most scenic state park in western Ohio. The 752-acre park contains a remarkable limestone gorge cut by the Little Miami River which is designated as a state and national scenic river. A portion of the gorge itself is designated as a national natural landmark.”
Located almost on the borders of the park are the Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve and the Glen Helen Nature Preserve, each with their own natural attractions.
It appears that nature lovers would find plenty to enjoy on such a day away. Details on date and time schedules are yet to be worked out, but the 24th and 31st have been suggested for the day to go. We’ll keep you informed as more details become available.
