VWHS cross country information
This coming Saturday, October 17, Van Wert High/Middle School will be the host site for the Western Buckeye League Cross Country Championships.
Nearly the entire race can be viewed from the grandstands at the VWHS track complex.
“We have a great school facility and the racing is sure to be exciting, as all races finish on the track,” said Van Wert Head Coach Kim Laudick. “There are some top state-ranked teams in the WBL and Van Wert is looking to contend for the WBL championship at all levels.”
The varsity high school teams traveled to Portage, Michigan, last Saturday to compete in one of the most competitive and largest cross country meets in the country. Several thousand athletes competed in four divisions.
The high school boys’ teams had five personal bests, with freshman Cal Wolfrum leading the way for the Cougars and finishing in the top 50 overall in the big school division. Wolfrum was the number 1 freshman in the race. On the girls’ side, Julia Springer ran lights out, setting a personal record on the hilly Portage course.
The race schedule for this week’s WBL championships is as follows: High school girls’ varsity race, 10 a.m.; high school boys’ varsity race, 10:45 a.m.; middle school girls’ race, 11:25 a.m.; middle school boys’ race, 11:55 a.m.; awards presentation, 12:30 p.m.
