Superintendent Mike Estes gave positive numbers from student open enrollment during the 2015-16 school year. According to Estes, a total of 863 students are currently enrolled and, of that, 132 are new students who came to Crestview Local Schools from another school, while 69 students left Crestview to attend a different district, leaving a net open enrollment of 63 students. Estes said those numbers are better than last year’s and none appear to be due to limitations in what the district offers.

High School Principal Mike Biro notified the board of a special Veterans Day being held on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, adding that Crestview students have prepared several service projects to support and honor its veterans.

Some of these activities include a writing campaign where “thank you” letters are written to veterans, a display of artifacts from veterans, and care packages and donations. The activities will be open to all students and will take place all day, but the main events will start at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium.  The day will end with a reception in the auditorium.

Middle School Principal Dave Bowen gave a special thanks to those who helped with the recently held Van Wert County Hospital Cross Country Invitational and for all the hard work that was put into making the event possible. Bowen also spoke about the Veterans Day event that is coming up, noting that both he and Biro are excited for the day to arrive.

The board officially approved new Munis financial software package purchased for the district from Tyler Technologies. The new software provides an integrated school financial system that cuts costs and provides information in a more readily accessible format.

In other action, the board:

  • Approved a girls’ soccer team trip to Columbus for September 26.
  • Approved the compensation plan and schedules for building level and district level PRIDE Committee members from September through August 2016; Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) members for the 2015-16 school year; and for the Resident Educator Program for the current school year.
