Wren area field fire
The Willshire Volunteer Fire Department was called to a field fire at 3376 Willshire Eastern Road at approximately 4:35 p.m. Sunday. Three mini-pumper units from Willshire, Ohio City, and Wren fire departments were on the scene, along with several water tankers. Approximately 17 acres of corn stubble was quickly burned off, although the fire was contained to the field. Particular concern was given to a wooded area adjacent to the east of the field, since a house was located in the wooded area. According to sources, Letta Stetler owned the land and the corn had just been shelled Saturday. Cause of the fire was believed to be a trash fire burning at a neighboring property. A unit from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene to assist with traffic control. Fires units were on the scene for approximately 2½ hours. (photos Bob Barnes/Van Wert independent)
