Virginia P. “Ginny” Harter, 83, of Van Wert, died at 5:37 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born July 14, 1932, in Toledo, the daughter of Dale and Lena (Pollock) Scott, who both preceded her in death. On July 8, 1950, she married Max Harter, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include five children, Sheryl Tumblin-Burgei of Fort Jennings, Carol (Gary) Lininger, Jana (Roy) Ringwald and Karen (Robert) Ashley, all of Van Wert, and Donald (Kim) Harter of Ohio City; 12 grandchildren, Katie Lininger, Melissa (James) McKean, Michelle (Matt) Menke, Matthew Tumblin, Jessica (Eric) Armstrong, Emily (Trevor) Sill, Cally (Tim) Lange, Hope Ringwald, Mitchell Ringwald, Megan Ashley, Mike (Jennifer) Burgei, and Angela (Tom) Pettinger; and 19 great-grandchildren, Alexandra Lininger, Jimmie McKean, Carson McKean, Kennedi McKean, Kaylee Lange, Grace Lange, Oliver Sill, Hayzell Sill, Dylan Armstrong, Corbyn Armstrong, Abigail Pettinger, Samantha Pettinger, Joey Pettinger, Calvin Menke, Stella Menke, William Burgei, and Victoria Burgei.

Two sons-in-law, DeWayne Tumblin and Don Burgei, and a granddaughter, Sarah Harter, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Harter retired in 1995 from Van Wert National Bank after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, a past member of its Altar Guild, a member of the Caregivers of St. Mark’s, and a member and past secretary of Twig I in Van Wert.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 6, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. William Haggis II officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 5, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or Twig I.
