Gardening symposium coming to NPAC

Niswonger PAC information

Do you like working in the soil and making things grow: things other than corn, soybeans, and other commercial crops, that is? If so, the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio (NPAC) has a great new event coming this spring that is bound to put a bloom in the cheeks of local gardeners and gardeners-to-be.

Area gardeners can learn how to create the garden of their dreams by attending the upcoming gardening symposium at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio.
Area gardeners can learn how to create the garden of their dreams by attending the upcoming gardening symposium at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio.

Celebrity garden designer P. Allen Smith will be the featured speaker for the upcoming Van Wert Blooms Gardening Symposium, which is being held Sunday, April 16, 2016, in the NPAC.

Gardening enthusiasts and friends from surrounding states will gather at the Niswonger for a full day of informative speakers, question-and-answer sessions and book signings.

Smith, who will be the featured speaker of the conference, will share stories and scenes gathered from his wide-ranging travels to world-class gardens, while taping programs for his nationally syndicated television shows. He will offer tales about many of the fascinating gardeners he has met along the way — some zany, others serious, but all passionate about their plants.

Smith will also offer plenty of bottom-line gardening advice, with a dash of down-home humor and lots of real-life anecdotes. His career as a best selling author, award winning television host, and frequent guest on the “Today Show” have brought him national acclaim, including the prestigious 2006 National Medal of Honor from the Garden Club of America.

Admission is $45 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Smith will also be available after his lecture to sign copies of his “Garden Home” book series.

Area residents in the Master Gardener program can also earn six continuing education units for attending the event, while the event will be a great way to begin the gardening season and spend time with friends who like to garden.

In addition to Smith, noted gardening experts Amanda Thomsen, Barbara Wise, Irvin Etienne, Maria Zampini, and Pam Bennett, will also share information from the stage and will also be available for question-and-answer sessions after speaking.
