Lake Campus offers beer brewing classes

CELINA — Want to learn more about brewing beer, or interested in starting your own craft beer brewery? Two unusual classes now being offered at Wright State University’s Lake Campus can help area residents realize their dream of being a craft brewer.

Both Beer 101 and 201 are non-credit classes being offered at the Lake Campus.

BEER 101: Dr. Joe Cavanaugh, Lake Campus professor and master home brewer, will teach area residents the nuances of craft beers and introduce information for home brewing in this informative class. Learn what flavors complement each other to make the perfect mix! The class will be using Moeller Brew Barn beers for tasting.

The class will be held Saturday, November 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (three hours). Cavanaugh is the instructor and the class location is Moeller Brew Barn, 8016 Marion Drive in Maria Stein. Cost of the class is $60 per person, which includes a home brewing book.

BEER 201: Participants will receive their own home-brewing starter kit and assist Dr. Cavanaugh with brewing a sample batch. Learn how to use a home brewing kit to make beer at home. Start on the path to becoming a master beer craftsman. The starter kit is included in the cost of the class.

The class will be held Saturday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (three hours). The instructor is Dr. Cavanaugh and the class will also be held at Moeller Brew Barn in Maria Stein. Cost is $125 per person and includes a home brewing starter kit.

This is a great Christmas gift to give to a beer lover. Register for both classes and save. Attend Beer 101 and 201 for a total cost of $175. Groups of four or more who sign up together receive an additional discount. For both sessions, the cost is only $160 per person.
