Local attorney Eva J. Yarger has submitted petitions seeking the Republican nomination in the March primary election for the January 2017 term as Van Wert County prosecuting attorney.
Yarger, an attorney with more than 25 years experience, has been an assistant county prosecutor since 1997. She has also represented the Van Wert County Child Support Enforcement Agency since 1993, and has worked extensively for the Van Wert County Department of Children’s Services.

Her career as prosecuting attorney has focused on assisting children, either in cases of abuse, neglect and dependency, or in prosecuting physical and sexual abuse of children on the felony level. She is currently focused on adult felony prosecutions and appeals, including rape, gross sexual imposition, domestic violence, drug trafficking and possession, and thefts.
Yarger graduated cum laude in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, with minors in English and economics, from the Ohio State University, and earned her law degree from Arizona State University College of Law in 1989. She was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha honor societies at Ohio State and to the Inns of Court at Arizona State.
Yarger was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio in October 1989 and has been in private practice in Van Wert as an attorney since December 1989. She currently is in partnership with longtime local attorney Robert C. Young in the firm of Young and Yarger.
Yarger is a past president and current member of the Van Wert County Bar Association, a current member of the Ohio State Bar Association and past member of the Ohio State Bar Association Council of Delegates. Yarger is a patron member and avid attendee of Van Wert Civic Theatre, a member of Wassenberg Art Center, and its Board of Trustees.
She was appointed as a trustee of The Van Wert County Foundation earlier this year — the first woman board member in 60 years. She is a board member of LifeLinks Community School, vice president of the Brumback Library Board of Trustees, and vice chair of the Van Wert County Republican Central Committee.
Yarger is a member of the Van Wert Area Law Enforcement Association and the Van Wert County Township Association.
