Everyone contributes a little to the fun…
By Rex Dolby

The Van Wert Area Photography Club held its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Nov. 12. Because so many contributed in so many different ways, the meeting was like a carry-in dinner only it was about the club and photography rather than food. It’s a little complicated, but I’ll try to make it clear.
It all started when Jan Sorensen said anyone wanting Dick Rohr’s still life setups could have them on a first come, first served basis. Stuart Jewett and Chris Wilson claimed all set ups and unloaded them at 114 S. Race St. Rex Dolby went in before the meeting and assembled one of the stations. Karl Gribler found some light stands, and Stuart set up his camera and invited anyone interested in seeing what they could do to give it a try. Joe Schramm and Cheryl Knost brought photos they had previously taken that showed what the potential outcomes could be. It was agreed that anyone wishing to utilize the stations would contact an officer for access.
Tracy Sterling and Randy Shellenbarger showed pictures from their photo shoot to John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs. In addition to some great fall shots, Tracy observed that you need to watch for reflections in still water that can double the impact of the composition.
Treasurer Karl Gribler, who is retiring from that position, gave his last treasurer’s report. Karl has done an outstanding job and was thanked for his service. He has all our old bank accounts converted to the VWAPC name.
The club has made good progress toward its tax exempt status since the approval of its comprehensive By Laws in May. The club received its Articles of Incorporation from the Treasurer of Ohio in October and its EIN from the IRS in November. There are still several pages of forms yet to be completed before we achieve tax exempt status.
The discussion then turned to the Christmas Dinner which will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10. The job of finding a place and menu was given to Larry Dickerhoof. Once he has the place and meal determined, members will need to give Larry their reservations. After the dinner, there will be an election of officers for the new year from the slate of candidates determined at the November meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted.
