Seniors Cody Mefferd and Connor Lautzenheiser led the charge offensively for the Knights, with Mefferd scoring 18 points and Lautzenheiser 17 to lead all scorers in the game. Tim Kreeger led the Blue Jays with 12 points on the night, while Robby Saine added nine points for St. John’s.

The big quarter for Crestview was the second quarter, when the Knights outscored St. John’s 20-7 to take a 15-point lead, 27-12, into the locker room at halftime.

The Blue Jays actually outscored Crestview by a basket in the second half, 23-21, but the rally was too little, too late for the young St. John’s squad.

The Blue Jay defensive effort also improved as St. John’s went from a 2-3 zone to man-to-man coverage and started limiting the Crestview shooters opportunities for the easy shot.

Still trailing into the final stanza, the Blue Jays were forced to foul, but the Knights made eight free throws in a row to ice the ‘Jay rally and protect the win for Crestview.

The Knights also won the junior varsity game, 37-23, with Brant Richardson leading with way with 12 points for Crestview’s JV team.

The Knights return to action tonight, hosting another Midwest Athletic Conference team, Parkway. St. John’s plays Elida at home.
