Jay E. Mollenkopf, 51, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at his home in Jamestown, Tennessee.

He was born March 30, 1964, in Van Wert, the son of Dean C. Mollenkopf, who survives in Van Wert, and Ellen L. (Price) Mollenkopf, who preceded him in death. On February 14, 1986, he married Rhonda L. (Kidder) Mollenkopf, who survives in Jamestown.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Other survivors include three children, David (Christine) Kidder of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Nathan (Krista) Kidder and Rachel Kidder, both of Jamestown. He was “pop pop” to five grandchildren, Austin, Anastasia, Hemi, Barrett, and Liam. His stepmother, Susan Mollenkopf of Van Wert, and his mother-in-law, Jane Thompson of Pensacola, Florida, also survive. Three sisters, Lynn (Jeff) Johnson of Delphos, Cheryl Mollenkopf of Ohio City, and Mary Jo Smith of Van Wert; and two stepbrothers, Randy (Pam) Olson and Barry Olson, also survive, as do two brothers-in-law, Todd and Tony Thompson; and their families, as well as six nephews, Kyle (Ebany) Hammons, Brett (Alison) Hammons, Zach (Vanessa Menke) Smith, Adam (Erin) Johnson, Nick (Brittney) Johnson, and Sarah (Mike) Kroggel; 13 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Grandparents Emory and Pauline Price, and Ed and Ruth Mollenkopf; and his father-in-law, Jerry Thompson, also preceded him in death.

Jay retired from the United States Navy in 2005 as an AOCS (AW/NAC) after serving his country for more than 20 years. Jay enjoyed spending time on his pontoon with his wife and grandkids, and being close to nature. He and his wife were the consummate hosts for his extended families’ annual lake vacations, providing many fond memories.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, at Convoy United Methodist Church.

Calling hours are from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
