Van Wert County Treasurer Beverly Fuerst has filed nominating petitions as a Republican candidate for re-election in the March primary election.
Fuerst started working in the Treasurer’s Office in April of 1994 as a deputy treasurer. She has been county treasurer since December 2002.

Fuerst is a native of Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Harold Pohlman and Dolly Pohlman of Delphos and is a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School and Columbus Business University.
As treasurer, Fuerst serves as the tax collector, banker, and investment official for the county, with her major responsibilities being the collection of various county taxes and investing county funds.
She has attended numerous continuing educational classes with the state treasurer and state auditor’s offices, as well as attending state treasurer’s conferences.
As county treasurer, Fuerst serves on several county entities, including the Investment Advisory Board, Budget Commission, Board of Revision, and Data Processing, Microfilm and Internal Audit committees.
Excellent customer service is the top priority in her office and she and her staff welcome any questions or concerns taxpayers might have.
Fuerst has always complimented Van Wert County residents for being very responsible in paying their real estate taxes. The county currently has a 1.4 percent delinquency rate on real estate taxes.
Fuerst is a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, is a past president of the YMCA Board of Directors, a member of the Van Wert Revolving Loan Fund, a member of the Van Wert Community Improvement Corporation, a member of Van Wert County Hospital’s Twig III organization, is treasurer of the Van Wert Republican Women’s Club, is a member of Van Wert Rotary Club, a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau and belongs to the Township Trustees and Clerks Association. She was a 2003 recipient of the YWCA’s “Women of Achievement “ award.
She and her husband, Duane “Dewey” Fuerst, reside in Van Wert and have two sons: Dr. Matthew (Tara) Fuerst of Delaware, and Dr. Mark (Kristi Bell) Fuerst of Van Wert, and two grandsons.
