William E. Frey

William E. Frey, 86, of Van Wert, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born February 6, 1929, in Hoaglin Township, Van Wert County, the son of Walter W. and Nora L. (Barker) Frey, who both preceded him in death. He married Rae J. (Hunter) Frey, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include four children, Jill Evans of Van Wert, Randy (Cheryl) Frey of Terre Haute, Indiana, Steve (Denise) Frey of Dublin, and Susan (Jonathan) Bohn of Massillon; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Fred Frey; and one sister, Lola Pierce, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Frey was a lifetime farmer and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert.

He was also a member of the Van Wert Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert. He was an avid Lincolnview Lancers and Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and he devoted much of his time to watching his grandchildren’s school and sports activities. His dog, Emily, was a constant companion.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 16, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Scott Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 3-8 p.m. Friday, January 15, at the funeral home.
