Paulding edges Cougars in girls’ contest
Van Wert independent sports
The Van Wert Cougar girls gave it everything they had, but couldn’t quite get over the hump, losing by five to Paulding, 55-50, in a non-conference game played Monday in the Cougars’ Den.
The Lady Cougars trailed by three, 12-9, at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Paulding 13-10 in the second period to tie the score at 22-all at the half.
Van Wert led by one point, 37-36, at the end of three after outscoring the Lady Panthers 15-14, but couldn’t hold on, thanks in part to Faith Vogel’s offensive contributions for Paulding.
Vogel led all scorers with 26 points, while Ally Jackson had 10 points and Allison Arend 9 points for the Panthers.
Cassidy Meyers led the Cougars with 21 points, while Ally Jackson scored 16 points — including four treys — for Van Wert.
Paulding is now 2-15, while the Cougars fall to 0-16 on the year.
