Convoy house fire 1-16-16

Area firefighters were busy on Tuesday, with a house fire near Convoy and a grocery store in Antwerp to deal with. Firefighters were called to a house fire on Pollock Road near Convoy early Tuesday evening. In addition to Convoy Fire Department, departments providing mutual aid included Van Wert, Ohio City, and Scott, with a total of 40 firefighters at the scene. The Disaster Team of the Van Wert County Chapter of the American Red Cross was also on the scene to assist the family and provide refreshments to firefighters, while Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative cut power to the house. The house sustained major damage and two adults and one child were left homeless. Later Tuesday, seven fire departments were on the scene of a fire at The Market grocery store in Antwerp. Firefighters from Antwerp, Payne, Paulding, Cecil, Sherwood, Hicksville, and Woodburn, Indiana, were on the scene, while the Red Cross provided canteen service. Food and drinks were donated by Oasis Bar and Grill, the Pizzeria and the Van Wert Walmart store. (Red Cross photo)
