VW loses to Bath, Lancers fall to Jeffcats

The Van Wert Lady Cougars fell to Lima Bath, while Lincolnview’s Lady Lancers fought hard, but lost to Delphos Jefferson in girls’ basketball games played on Thursday.

The Lady Cougars trailed from the get-go as Bath took a six-point lead, 16-10, at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 20 points, 34-14, at the half. Van Wert trailed by 22 points, 47-25, at the three-quarter mark.
The Cougars were led by Meghan Moonshower’s 9 points, while Ally Jackson added 8 points for Van Wert.
Heidi Craddock led the Wildkittens with 15 points, while Lindsay Singhaus added 10 points for Bath.
The Van Wert junior varsity team edged the Wildkitten JVs 38-35.
The Lincolnview Lady Lancers lost 45-39 to Jefferson in a Northwest Conference girls’ basketball battle on Thursday.
Delphos led by three points, 15-12, at the end of the first quarter, but the Lancers rallied to outscore the Lady Jeffcats 12-8 in the second quarter to lead by a point, 24-23, at the half.
Delphos Jefferson outscored the Lancers 22-15 in the second half, however, to steal the victory away from Lincolnview.
Sarah Miller led the Jeffcats with 17 points, while Tori Black and Macy Wallace each had 8 points for Delphos.
Kayla Schimmoeller was Lincolnview’s top scorer with 10 points, while Katlyn Wendel added 9 points and Ashton Bowersock scored 8 for the Lady Lancers.
Lincolnview shot better from the field (18 of 36 for 50 percent, versus 15 of 37 for 40 percent for Jefferson), but Delphos won the game at the free throw line, making 12 of 15 (80 percent), while the Lancers had only two free throw attempts and missed both.
Lincolnview outrebounded the Jeffcats, 19-15, but had 19 turnovers to just 8 for Delphos.
