Woman killed in Paulding County crash

PAYNE — The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Ohio 49 in Paulding County north of Payne.

Troopers received a report at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday that a 2007 Saturn Ion operated by Bobbi M. Brkovic, 30, of Paulding, had osplogobeen southbound on Ohio 49, north of Ohio 111, when her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then veered back onto the roadway and later went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Brkovic was transported by Antwerp EMS to Parkview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, while a passenger, Lisa A. Recker, 47, of Antwerp, was transported by Payne EMS to Paulding County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Brkovic was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while Recker was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Van Wert Post was assisted on scene by deputies from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Payne EMS, Antwerp EMS, and R&O Wrecker Service.The crash remains under investigation.
