The varsity boys’ basketball team defeated rival team Wayne Trace in an 82-77 double overtime victory last Saturday. The Knights staged a ten point comeback in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. The JV squad also won 37-28. On Friday night, senior Cody Mefferd made his return at Spencerville after suffering from multiple concussions. “It feels great to finally be back on the court with my teammates,” he said. “I’m hoping I don’t get another concussion so I can help the team make a deep tournament run.” The varsity Knights beat the Bearcats 51-44, and the JV team won 44-25.

Crestview hosts the Northwest Conference junior high boys basketball McDonald’s tournament each year. The boys’ basketball team works the tournament, selling tickets and running the clock. “When I played in the McDonald’s tournament, we lost in the championship game both years,” said junior Tanner Crowle. “So I like to be able to watch the younger kids play and have the chance to win.” Both the eighth grade and seventh grade teams defeated Delphos Jefferson to advance to the championship games, which will be played on Saturday, February 13th. The middle school girls are also nearing tournament time. The eighth grade girls have had a very successful season thus far, going undefeated in the regular season.

Juniors and seniors at Crestview were given the opportunity to compete in the H&R Block Budget Challenge. The Budget Challenge is a scholarship competition in which students participate in a real time simulation. Participants pay bills, manage finances, and make decisions about investments, 401k contributions, and other real-world issues. Business teacher Shawn Schuette offered this opportunity to students. “I wanted to give students an opportunity to earn scholarship money,” he said, “and to prepare them for the real world through experience.”
