VW independent/submitted information

For the 11th year in a row, Van Wert Middle School has been recognized by the Ohio Schools to Watch (OSTW) and National Schools to Watch (NSTW) programs, according to the Ohio Department of Education. Van Wert Middle School was announced as one of only 20 Ohio Middle Schools to achieve this prestigious recognition.

The OSTW program identifies high-performing middle grades schools that are academically excellent, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable. Schools must complete an extensive application and reflection process. A team of trained evaluators then visits selected schools.

“Congratulations to staff and leadership for being re-designated as both an Ohio School to Watch and National School to Watch,” said Dan Stacy, consultant for the Ohio Department of Education. “Your school’s written application is strong evidence of the quality of your school.

“The self-study process provides ongoing reflection on the challenges and progress made over the last three years,” he added. “This designation is a reflection of Van Wert Middle School staff’s leadership providing students with the best education possible.”

On March 15, Van Wert Middle School is inviting the Van Wert community to visit classrooms in action. Stop in anytime throughout the school day (7:40 a.m.-3 p.m.) and visit a classroom or talk with teachers, students or administration.

The school plans to end the day with a Schools to Watch celebration in the gymnasium. Those planning to visit don’t need to RSVP, and can stay as long as they would like.

Van Wert Middle School will be formally recognized at the Schools to Watch Conference in Washington, D.C., June 22-25.

“Van Wert Middle School administration, staff, and students thank the Van Wert City Schools community for your continued support,” said VWMS Principal Mark Bagley.
