Knights lose in final seconds to ML Flyers

WAPAKONETA – The Crestview Lady Knights lost a heartbreaker Thursday in Division IV sectional play at Wapakoneta as Marion Local upset Crestview 48-47 in the final seconds.

The Knights (17-5) struggled offensively, trailing Marion Local (14-11) 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. Crestview was down by five points, 24-19, at the half, but rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Flyers 17-13 to trail by just a point, 37-36, heading into the final stanza.

The fourth quarter was a wild one, with the lead changing hands several times during the quarter. The Knights had their chances but failed to convert on their final possession, while Marion Local’s Sarah Fesenmyer drained a jump shot with 11 seconds remaining to grab the win.

Emily Bauer led Crestview with 18 points, while Brady Guest scored 8 points, and Claire Zaleski and Paige Motycka each added 7 points for the Knights.

Marion Local’s Macey Griesdorn was the game’s top scorer with 20 points, while Emily Mescher added 11 points for the Lady Flyers, and Fesenmyer scored 8 points.

Both teams shot well, overall, with Crestview knocking down 20 of 40 field goal attempts (50 percent), including 3 of 5 from three-point range (60 percent). What hurt the Knights was free throw shooting, with Crestview hitting just 4 of 9 attempts from the line.

The Flyers were 17 of 44 from the field (38.6 percent), including 6 of 12 three-point attempts (50 percent). Marion Local made 7 of 9 free throw attempts (77.8 percent).

The Flyers outrebounded Crestview 33-24 and had four turnovers, to six for the Knights.

Marion Local will now play No. 1 seed Minster, which defeated Upper Scioto Valley 63-47.
