Peony Festival Committee selling flags

The Van Wert Peony Festival Committee announced it is selling festival flags and also provided information on this year’s Peony Festival Grand Parade.

The committee is selling its annual Peony Festival flags for $30 each. The flags measure 20 by 23 inches and can be hung from a garden post.

Staging for this year’s Grand Parade will again be located at the intersection of Main and Cherry streets (near YWCA). A registration table will be set up their to confirm units’ parade lineup position.

Peony flower artwork 2-2014The parade will begin at the YWCA, 408 E. Main St., and travel west down Main Street to end at the intersection of Main and Burt-Lincoln streets.

Parade units should be in line no later than 2:45 p.m. the day of the parade so entries can be judged. Each entry should have at least two bouquets of peonies, either real or artificial.

Also, all performance groups are required to stop in front of the Van Wert County Courthouse for a brief performance.

The 2016 Peony Festival Grand Parade award winners will also stop in front of the Courthouse to receive their trophies.

Entries this year may include floats, vehicles, or organized groups of people. Vehicles are allowed to use horns, sirens, and lights, if applicable.

Parade entries are being taken until Sunday, May 15, while paid performers must be signed up by Tuesday, March 15.
