Marlins compete in NW Ohio swim meet

BOWLING GREEN — This past weekend, the YMCA Marlins swim team competed at the Northwest Ohio YMCA Championships at the Bowling Green State University Natatorium.

Finishing with the highest overall team score of 102 points was 8-year-old Sam Houg, who finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle; fifth in the 100-yard individual medley (IM), the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard backstroke; was eighth in the 25-yard breaststroke, and ninth in the 25-yard butterfly. Next Highest scorer was 14-year-old Katie McVaigh, with a score of 79 points. McVaigh was fifth in the 200-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke; had a ninth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Jamie Burenga, 12, is the only swimmer that will move on to the next level of competition, the Zone Qualifier at Lima YMCA next week. She will compete in the 50-yard backstroke for a chance to travel to Canton for the YMCA Great Lake Zones.
