2016 primary election results now official

The Van Wert County Board of Elections announces that it officially certified the March 15 Primary Election on March 30.

The results remained the same, except for the addition of the provisional voters’ ballots, which had to be verified by election board staff members.

In the race for Van Wert County commissioner between incumbent Todd Wolfrum and challenger Staci Kaufman, the certified vote count was 4,430 for Wolfrum, versus 2,373 for Kaufman. That’s an increase of 35 votes for Wolfrum over the unofficial total of 4,395 and an increase of 26 votes over Kaufman’s unofficial total of 2,357.

In the race for Van Wert County prosecuting attorney, incumbent Charles Kennedy’s final vote count was 3,341, in increase of 28 votes over his unofficial total of 3,313, while challenger Eva Yarger’s certified total of 3,402 is 22 votes higher than the unofficial total of 3,380, giving her a plurality of 61 votes, versus the 67-vote lead from the unofficial vote count.

As of Friday morning, Van Wert County Elections Director Linda Stutz said Kennedy has not sought a recount in the prosecutor’s race.
