Wassenberg seeks entries for art exhibit

Entries are being taken now for Wassenberg Art Center’s wind energy-themed art show: Winds of Change. Entries will be accepted today, Saturday, and Sunday, from 1-5 p.m., at the art center. No entries will be accepted after Sunday, May 1.

Exhibit dates for the show are from May 7-27, with a closing reception May 27, from 6-9 p.m., featuring live music and gourmet snacks.

Wassenberg Logo 4-2011Entry is open to amateur and professional artists age 16 and older. Entries must be the original work of the exhibiting artist. A non-refundable $20 entry fee ($15 for art center members) will be charged when artwork is dropped off. The fee covers up to four entries.

Accepted media will include paintings, hand-pulled prints, pastels, mixed media, sculpture, collage, pottery, glass, jewelry, wood, metalwork, fiber art, and photographs. Digital work will not be accepted, including ink-jet prints or color copies.

2-D works should be appropriately framed with sturdy wire hangers (no sawtooth hangers). Gallery wrapped canvases will be accepted; however, no unframed work will be accepted. Size limit is 72 inches by 72 inches (including frame) and weight should be less than 20 pounds. 3-D artwork weight more than 60 pounds and more than six feet across in width or height will require special arrangements (call first). Work with wet or sticky surfaces will be disqualified.

Entries and completed entry form must be delivered to Wassenberg Art Center, 214 S. Washington St. in Van Wert, by 5 p.m. Sunday, May 1.

The art center will handle all sales, and will charge a 30 percent commission. Pieces not priced or which state they’re not for sale may be labeled NFS at the discretion of the art center.

Cash awards will be given for the first three places. Unsold entries can be picked up May 29, 31, and June 1, from 1-5 p.m., unless prior arrangements are made. Entries remaining after 30 days become the property of Wassenberg Art Center.

Wassenberg also reserves the right to use imagery of submitted artwork for publicity and promotional reasons.
