Elks name ‘Students/Volunteers of Year’

Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, held its Youth Recognition Breakfast on Tuesday in conjunction with Elks National Youth Week. Approximately 100 people, including students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and principals, attended.

During the event, Lodge Scholarship Chair Diana Kiehl recognized local scholarship winners, who were forwarded to the state for judging. Also recognized by Lodge Americanism Chair Jill Evans were local winners in the Grand Lodge Americanism Essay Contest.

The “Student/Volunteer of the Month” winners were each recognized and the lodge named the Student/Volunteer of the Year winners. Selected as “Student/Volunteers of The Year” were Ronnie Schumm, a senior at Crestview High School, and Marcy Shoppell, a senior at Vantage Career Center.   The “Student of the Year” winners received a certificate, as well as $75. The winner is eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship through the Ohio Elks Association vying for the Student Volunteer of the Year award.

Linda Stanley is the Student/Volunteer of the Month Chair.
