Van Wert independent news

Only three criminal cases — two of those sentencing hearings — were on the docket Wednesday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Martin Burchfield sentenced Joel Crawford, 27, of Van Wert, to nine months in prison, with credit for 54 days already served, on a charge of possession of heroin, a felony of the fifth degree.

Levar Reed, 19, of Atlanta, Georgia, was sentenced to 81 days in jail, with credit given for that amount of time, in connection with a charge of tampering with evidence, a felony of the fourth degree.

Also Wednesday, Tyree DeWitt, 24, of Delphos, admitted to violating his treatment in lieu of conviction treatment program by failing drug and alcohol tests.

He was released on a surety bond, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 22.
