Volunteers sought for Children’s Garden
VW independent/submitted information
The Master Gardeners of Van Wert are asking the community to help with tending the Children’s Garden in Smiley Park.
The Master Gardeners is a small, energetic group, but needs extra help in maintaining the garden. The time commitment would be about an hour every week from June to September. A master gardener would be there each time to guide volunteers, while gloves, pruners, and a trowel would be the only equipment volunteers would need to bring.
Since Master Gardeners like to have the garden ready for weekend events, the group has chosen 10 a.m. Thursdays each week to work. Weeding, trimming bushes, dead-heading flowers, and watering are some of jobs to maintain the garden.
The Children’s Garden has been a wonderful destination for many families over the past 10 years and the Master Gardeners would like to continue keeping it beautiful for years to come. Volunteers can help the group preserve the garden.
For more information about helping this summer or becoming a Master Gardener in the future, call the Van Wert Extension Office at 419.238.1214.
